Everything You Wanted to Know About Flying High Retrievers (And a Few Things You Didn’t!)

1. Who runs Flying High Retrievers?

Flying High Retrievers is founded and run by Ryan Fisher, a passionate retriever enthusiast from Long Island, NY. It all started in 2021 with my black Lab, Apollo. We began with basics, hunt tests, and real hunting trips, then leveled up to competitive field trials. Over the past five years, we’ve been lucky to train with and learn from some of the country’s top amateur handlers. This site is our way of sharing the journey, tips, and fun with fellow retriever lovers!

2. What is the focus of this site?

We’re building a go-to resource for retriever owners who want more from their dogs—whether that’s better hunting performance, stronger hunt test results, field trial success, or just a happier, more obedient companion. Expect practical training tips & tricks, real-field vlogs, exclusive members-only content, and info on upcoming seminars/workshops.

3. When will the full site launch?

We’re launching very soon (early 2026 target). The “Coming Soon” page is live now so you can sign up for notifications and be first in line for launch specials and early access. Apollo and I are putting the final touches on content—stay tuned!

4. What kind of training content will be available?

A mix of free and premium:

•  Free: Blog posts, short vlogs, and basic tips on obedience, marking, water work, steadiness, and more

•  Members-only: In-depth guides, full training series, downloadable plans, private community forum, and behind-the-scenes footage from our training trips (including Adirondack adventures!)

5. Do you offer in-person seminars or training?

Yes! Once launched, we’ll post dates, locations, and booking info for hands-on seminars and workshops. These will cover topics like advanced marking, blind retrieves, handling, and season prep. Spots will be limited—members get priority access and early-bird pricing.

6. Is this only for field trial competitors?

Not at all! While Apollo and I compete in field trials and love the challenge, the content is designed for everyone: weekend hunters, hunt test folks, versatile gun dogs, and even family retrievers who just want better manners and more fun retrieves. There’s something here for every level.

7. What breeds do you focus on?

Primarily Labrador Retrievers (Apollo is a black Lab!), but the training principles apply to all retriever breeds—Goldens, Chessies, Tollers, flat-coats, and more. The fundamentals are the same!

Because watching a great retriever launch into the air for a mark, soar over water, or explode out of cover is pure magic. Apollo lives for those moments—and we want to help every dog and handler reach new heights together!
